Understanding the space between us

A young boy with short dark hair and glasses looking out the window of a train or bus, resting his arms on the windowsill, and gazing at the scenery outside.

You’re getting it done, but you are so incredibly tired.

When you are raising an neurodivergent child or teen, your day to day looks a lot different than some of the other parents you know. You are likely carrying a mental load that no one else sees:

  • The constant alertness: scanning environments for sensory triggers and reading micro-expressions to head off the next meltdown

  • The endless advocacy: fighting for IEP accommodations, dealing with schools, and managing appointments

  • The unspoken loneliness: feeling judged by strangers in public or lonely in a room full of neurotypical parenting advice that simply doesn't apply to your family

You love your child so much. You weren't meant to carry the weight all by yourself.

Welcome to Between Family Counseling. This is a space where you don't have to explain or justify your reality. You don’t have to translate your life for me. Here, we focus on your well-being. We will work through the feelings of hopelessness and numbness. We will navigate the unique grief of mourning what could have been and the anxiety that creeps in about what the future will be like and how you will get through this next thing. We will find practical, sustainable ways to support both your child and yourself.

You’ve been taking care of everyone else. Let Between Family Counseling be the place that takes care of you.
